Who Are We?

Radio Bronglais FM is the local hospital radio for Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth, providing broadcasting and befriending services for the benefit of the patients and staff of the hospital and its associated NHS services across mid Wales.

Radio Bronglais FM is a volunteer run UK registered charity (514267), and has been providing a combination of radio broadcasting, bedside befriending services and local community support since 1970. We broadcast all day, every day on 87.8 FM and online through our website www.rbfmlive.co.uk.

The charity depends entirely on fundraising and donations to keep running. RB FM is proud to be an equal opportunities organisation, and is always looking for new volunteers to join the team.

With 47 years of broadcasting history as Radio Atlantis, Radio Bronglais and RB FM, we provide an entertaining and informative 24 hour radio service to the local Aberystwyth community as the hospital radio for Bronglais General Hospital and all NHS Services across Mid Wales.

 

Our Services

As a hospital radio service, RB FM provides 24 hour music entertainment coupled with an informative collection of live shows throughout the week for the benefit of the patients, visitors and staff at Bronglais Hospital and associated services. We aim to provide a personal and interactive relationship with residents of Bronglais Hospital, be they patients, staff or visitors, and encourage live on the air interaction with all, be that through requests, dedications or interviews.

Alongside this, we offer a dedicated befriending service to provide regular and supportive visits to all applicable wards within the hospital to meet with and listen to both staff and patients.

We support both these services with a structured and community focused fundraising department. We are entirely reliant on public donations and fundraising through the local community.

For our own volunteers, we also provide training in broadcasting, audio technicals, audio and visual editing, befriending, journalism, marketing, public relations, fundraising and accountancy.

Who’s Involved?

Our station is entirely run by volunteers from all walks of life – a mixture of locals and students, professionals and retired – that all share a passion for music, radio, befriending or the work RB FM does with the local community. Our volunteers all hold a stake in the well-being of the station, and are a trusted and greatly appreciated group of individuals. This could be you.

No matter how little time you have to spare, or if you believe you have no skills to contribute, we would like to hear from you. Interested in a potential career in broadcasting or journalism? Membership

Annual membership fees are:

£15 for all members

This fee allows you to become a full member of RB FM, and provides you with 24/7 access to the station, covers you under our insurance, provides you with an official Press Card and RB FM uniform. The fee goes towards the costs of running the station.

RB FM works with Hywel Dda Health Board to fund DBS checks for its volunteers.

Fundraising

Fundraising is crucial to our existence. We rely entirely on funds raised from public donations to continue running as a station and a charity. During the year we arrange events that include street and supermarket collections, music events and raffles, entertainment days at holiday parks, and much more.
